Laurence Liew
Laurence is the Director of AI Industry Innovation at AI Singapore and drives the adoption of AI by the Singapore ecosystem through the 100 AI Experiences and Learning programs.
Visionary and serial technopreneur, Laurence has identified and presented Singapore companies for:
- Linux and open source in 1999, being the first RED HAT partner and accredited training center in Asia Pacific
- HPC (High Performance Computing) cluster in 2001, by building the first A-STAR IHPC computing cluster (all the initial HPC clusters in NUS, NTU, SMU were built by Laurence and his team)
- Grid Computing in 2003, building and operating Singapore’s first Grid platform – IDA’s National Grid Pilot Platform
- Cloud Computing in 2007, designing both the business and cloud technology for Alatum Cloud of Singapore Computer Systems (now owned by Singtel)
- Advanced Open Source Analytics in 2011, by developing the activity of Revolution Analytics Inc in Asia and the R&D team in Singapore. Revolution Analytics was acquired by Microsoft in 2015.
Laurence was named Microsoft’s Regional Director in 2018 – a global elite group of approximately 150 technology thought leaders, who will provide Microsoft’s management team with unbiased third-party industry commentary on technology trends and Microsoft technologies. Regional Directors are appointed on a voluntary basis and are recognized leaders in their field and for their accomplishments in communicating the benefits of emerging technologies to their ecosystem.
Laurence graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with High Honors in Engineering and holds a Masters in Knowledge Engineering from NUS.
